Mari and an episode

The dogs woke me up.

In the dark, I saw Ginger and Mari shuffling on the floor.

As though rummaging for food.

But my dogs do not rummage for food.

I have never seen dogs more detached from eating.

I was going to see what Mari was eating,

When I heard, “Turn the light on.”

Oh, that is a better idea, I thought,

than trying to see in the dark.

I turned on the light.

And saw Mari was having a seizure.

Ginger as usual tried to engage her, then ran away.

I went to Mari and gently stroke her back,

reciting the Hail Mary.

It helped her.

She lay on the floor, crouched close to the floor, shaking.

Six minutes of it.

I started praying and felt more than heard, she is fine.

It was more an easing of feeling inside.

But a sure feeling.

True enough, Mari started to calm down.

It still took her half an hour to fully stop vibrating.

When it was time for their walk,

she was back to normal and raring to go.

This is an improvement.

I remember one severe seizure

Which put her in fear mode for three days.

Now, she recovers faster.

And is back to her normal self within hours.
